Houston Sports Bars

If the fact that even the swanky, retro lounges and dance clubs offer places to see the action on game day isn’t enough to prove that the city of Houston loves sports, what is? Like moths to a flame, the rabid sports-fan population of Houston congregates around massive flat-paneled televisions to cheer for their favorite team. Sports bars in Houston are perfect for just about every type of sports fan, from the laid-back suit types to the get naked and paint your body with your teams colors types. Traditional pub-grub and American fare are stomach-padding staples in Houston sports bars, since the drinks are almost always stiff and it’s hard to stay on the wagon when the crowd is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Fans of opposing teams may engage in heated discussions from time to time, but it’s nothing that cold beer and a hot bartender can’t negotiate.

Also, in something of a coup de grace to other sports bars, Grifff's Café and Bar has itsown open top party bus to haul their boozers to and from home games. This really should be enough for you to put Griff's on your regular drinking tour of Houston, but we'll give you one more reason: St. Patrick's Day—seriously it's one of the biggest celebrations in the state, and that's saying a lot.

Nick's Place seriously gets our vote for one great Houston bar and restaurant because it is so reminiscent of those pizza and beer joints our parents always took us to and we imagined continuing the established bar and pizza cycle. 18301 Egret Bay Blvd., Houston, Texas; Tel. 281.333.1785
An awesome bar anytime, but especially on game days, Rock Neutney's in Houston has just an insane amount of TVs—three are 60-inch HDTV's and one could cause serious myopia 'cause it's like 70-square feet projection—and sports are the dominant force behind these electronic marvels. Also, this Houston sports bar has drink specials daily, further lessening their already wallet friendly prices and, as one of the best added bar bonuses we've seen because not many establishments do this, the full service kitchen at Rock Neutney's Irish Pub serves until 2am, making that sobering bite blessedly within arm's reach.

Known in Houston just as much for its reputation as a post professional sports team collapse congregation bar as for its more than dangerous daiquiris, Slider's embodies the Houston neighborhood bar serving its crowds of diverse patrons very, very well. Also for when the pain on the TVs gets to be too much to bear or the rampant socializing gets to be a little much (if that's even possible), Slider's has pool tables, foosball and pinball for you to take out your frustrations on.

SRO Sports Bar and Grill

444 Northwest Mall, Houston, Texas; Tel. 713.683.5025

The Wet Spot

160 West Gray, Houston, Texas; Tel. 713.523.7768
A decidedly younger sports minded set hangs out at The Wet Spot in Houston because of the heavy drinks, the numerous televisions and the, well, the hotties, which make every bar in Houston that much better. The laid back clientele may engage you in a heated discussion if you're rooting for the opposing team, but after a round of The Wet Spots more than dangerous drinks, you guys won't even remember what the heck you were talking about.

Time Out Ale House and Sports Bar

1400 Shepherd Dr., Houston, Texas; Tel. 713.863.8865
Time Out Ale House and Sports Bar in Houston initially appears to be a tiny hole in the wall bar, but actually opens up to reveal a spacious room where sports, drinking and cheap, good food are the focus. Nearly 50 beers on tap and cocktails, whose prices both seem perpetually stuck in a time warp, fuel sports tinged "conversations" among the neighborhood regulars catching the game while chowing down on steak sandwiches that hitched along for the time travel ride with the cocktails at this relaxed Houston sports bar.
