Houston Local Bands

Though Austin proudly totes the title of the "live music capital of the world," Houston is no stranger to live music and local bands. Plenty of stages at live music venues offer the staggering number of local bands a place to get their feet wet on stage or to just peddle their notes to the general public. Bands continuing the tradition of Texas-borne blues and rock can be found all over the city, but there are more than enough bands specializing in other genres to please even the most discriminating ear. By virtue of the huge dance scene in Houston, Latin bands command audiences all over the city, filling clubs with everything from sassy salsa notes to sultry Cuban grooves. Various forms of rock also have a strong hold on the live music scene, particularly in the forms of pop-punk, acoustic folk and, of course, country.
