As thousands of Texans are dusting off their cowboy hats and polishing their boots, Houston is getting ready to welcome the one of the most celebrated events in Texas, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Running March 3-22, the 2009 Show will highlight its contribution to the agricultural industry, support the education of thousands of Texan youngsters and provide a top venue for family entertainment, all the while preserving the rich Western heritage of the community.

There will be exciting livestock and horse show competitions at the Houston Livestock Show™, as Texas 4-H and FFA members, and professional breeders and ranchers from across the country all vie for the prestigious title of Houston champion.

RodeoHouston™ is the world's largest rodeo and a general celebration of everything Texas. The indoor rodeo features the world's top cowboys and cowgirls competing for their eight seconds of fame in seven events, including bull riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling. There will also be a variety of other events, ranging from thrilling chuck wagon races to heart-warming calf scrambles, as well as star-studded concerts featuring Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, John Legend, Fergie and dozens of other top-notch performers.

Not just for fans of rodeo, the Houston Rodeo also caters to fans of everything Western and Tejano. Over 350 booths selling everything from custom saddles to delectable Bar-B-Que complement the electrifying competition, as does a Children's Zone complete with chick hatching and pony rides.

The annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo entertains and educates nearly 2 million visitors each year, with excitement around every bend. Since the Show's beginning in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has contributed more than $220 million to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, the Rodeo Institute for Teacher Excellence™, School Art participants, and other educational and youth programs.
