4503 Montrose is the current address for this Gallery which relocated from 3400 Montrose. Owned by Sulayman Jarra, PhD, originally from the Gambia, West Africa, this is the source for the largest collection of African tribal art you will likely ever find in the USA. While the quality of the pieces and their age vary greatly, there are objects here for any lover of African art. Works in wood, bronze, terra cotta, and fabric are all available and range from 15th to 20th century. You'll find pieces here comparable to anything you've seen at the MFAH or Menil. If you don't see it, just ask. If you like African art I guarantee you'll enjoy seeing this gallery and meeting Sulayman. The majority of the work comes from West Africa and the Congo. A sampling of the tribes represented include, Chokwe, Benin, Owo, Ife, Dogon, Bankoni, Baule, Guro, Pende, Punu, Tabwa, Songhe, Bamana, Asante, Lulua, Tada, Bundu, Fang, Dan, Lobi, Luba, Kuba, Yombe and Makonde.
